Dicyandiamide is mainly produced by reacting hydrogen cyanide with ammonia, and common production methods include:
-Ammonia cyanidation: Dicyandiamide is obtained by reacting ammonia and hydrogen cyanide under the action of catalyst.
-Ammonia and cyanide: Dicyandiamide is obtained by reacting ammonia with cyanide such as sodium cyanide and potassium cyanide.


 
-Plastics and resins: Used in the production of cyanamide resins (e.g. melamine), which are widely used in the manufacture of heat-resistant plastics, paints and glues.
-Agriculture: Used as a component of nitrogen fertilizers, especially in controlled nitrogen release fertilizers, to help increase crop yields and reduce nitrogen loss.
-Chemical Intermediates: Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals (e.g. melamine, cyanate).
-Electronic Industry: Used in the manufacture of some electronic materials and high performance insulating materials.


Dicyandiamide requires the following attention during use and handling:
