KMM defines a cage as an enclosure mounted on the side rails of a fixed ladder or fastened to a structure behind the fixed ladder which surrounds the climbing space of the ladder.
A cage ladder is typically used for easy roof and mezzanine access, high or hazardous locations such as areas in close proximity to a roof edge or high-voltage power lines, outdoor advertising, access to interior roof or floor hatches, elevator pits, and for manhole access, and door/wall hatch access.
